700+FP Goose Down jacket with seamless baffles for increased insulation.
Using 700+ fill power goose down makes the Karakorum our warmest mountaineering jacket, perfect for the bitter cold of high alpine conditions. Tighter baffle spacing of the down chambers with seamless technology increases warmth, improves compress ability, and reduces weight. Criss-crossed baffles are used in the arm chambers to prevent the down from shifting. Articulated arms give a large range of motion. The snorkel hood has two-axis adjustment large enough for a helmet with skin friendly fleece on the inside of the collar to protect your face from wind and cold. Elastic cuffs seal warmth in at the wrist with internal thumb loops. A draft tube over the main zipper keeps the cold out and there are lots of pockets; two pack-friendly hand pockets outside, two cargo stash pockets, and a zippered chest pocket inside. The asymmetric hem can be cinched tight with glove-friendly drawcords.

Ohio's last snow of the season brought an opportunity to put this jacket to use. The Karakorum Down Jacket has many of the same qualities that the Flight Lite Down Jacket has. The zipper pulls, the 3 hood straps/drawstrings, the waistline drawstrings, and the pockets being the main similarities. One difference; there is no external chest pocket. One of the best aspects of this jacket is, hands down, the extra elastic cuff that is in the distal part of the sleeve. Not only does it help keep your gloves on, but it also helps to keep out the cold. While this jacket was made specifically for alpine climbs, I would not overlook it when searching for a casual winter jacket. It kept me dry while in the snow all day, and I never once felt my upper body get cold. I can see this jacket lasting me many winters to come.
This is an awesome lightweight, super packable, and extremely warm down jacket for cold cold places. Its warmth to weight ratio seems to be in a class of its own compared to other 'bigger name' brands similar jackets. Nice finishing touches, such as baffled hood, big high draft tube collar, and elastic wrist gaiters makes this a true winner. Ive been using this jacket while guiding in such cold environments as the Ouray Ice Park, ski touring in Alaska and Colorado, and high altitude climbing in the Bolivian Andes and on Denali. A year of hard use, and it has a few knicks and some feathers squeezing their way out, but overall an unbeatable super cold weather layer for its weight and packability.
